EX240 Dual Fan Radiator

Previously, the main options available were the thin RS series and double thickness RX series radiators, the introduction of an EX series is important because of what it offers considering it’s thickness. In the past, the thickness of the radiator was one of the first compromises a system builder had to make. Many cases would only accommodate a 30mm thick radiator and this limits the ability of the cooling system to disperse the heat from the water loop when compared to a thicker 45 or 60mm radiator. Designers are now making cases more “water cooling friendly” now and what we are seeing is a broader range of radiator placement options with features like removable drive bays and mounting holes in the floor, front and roof – not to mention grommets for external radiator mounting (i.e. hardcore water cooling). The size of the EX240 radiator makes it more likely to fit in a wider range of PC case options than it’s thicker and longer siblings without throwing in the towel on performance.

XSPC state :
“The EX series combines the low profile design of our RS series radiators with the high performance of our award winning RX series. This feat has been possible due to several manufacturing advances including, split fins, improved soldering techniques, and welded seam tubes. The EX series has been designed and optimised for low speed fans, so it can offer high performance cooling at very low noise levels.”

XSPC also include 2 XSPC 1650 rpm 120mm 3pin fans (with grills) in the kit to pair with the EX240. In the test results, you will see our temperatures when running the fans and a very quiet 5v and then at the full 1650 rpm/12v. At 12v, the included fans are loud, not the loudest 120mm fans we have heard but still the first thing you notice when walking into the room.

The specifications of the EX240 radiator are:

  • Copper and Brass Core
  • Black Matt Paint Finish
  • RoHS Compliant
  • Dimensions: 121 x 35.5 x 275mm (WxDxH)
  • Weight: ~507g
  • Ports: G1/4″
  • Screws: 6-32 UNC
  • Fans: 2 x 120mm (4x with push/pull)
  • Supplied 30mm and 6mm 6-32 UNC screws

The finish is matte and it looks great whilst feeling solid during the installation. The pressed XSPC logo is also a nice touch but we couldn’t see it in our rig due to the top folded lip of the case – if we went push-pull configuration and sandwiched it between 2 sets of fans, it would be visible if the case was open. Still, it’s the attention to detail and band pride that we really like to see from manufacturers.
