Reviewed: MSI X99S Gaming 7

Pricing

At $395, this board is at the less expensive end of the scale but still has all the bells and whistles that you would expect from a gaming motherboard. With the money you could save with the X99S Gaming 7, it might mean that you can stretch to a better CPU or memory choice

Conclusion

X99/2011-3 is a platform that you should plan to keep for a while because it’s expensive – the CPUs are expensive, the DDR4 RAM is expensive and the boards are generally also quite expensive. The MSI X99S Gaming 7 is a good balance of features, performance and cost so we wouldn’t hesitate to use this if we were building an X99 build in the interests of a “value balancer”.

Make no mistake, this board is excessive for even a hardcore gamer and you probably won’t need the processing power it’s capable of delivering. So although you might not need it and the average gamer would struggle to justify the expense, you sure as hell should want it. This board makes for a great workstation but a truly awesome gaming experience.
